"The fight for disclosure and justice"

With "The Obscurants", Alternative 4 - the current main sphere of Duncan Patterson (ex Anathema, ex Antimatter) - release their second full-length album and continue the line of enquiry that began with their debut "The Brink" in 2011. Like its predecessor, "The Obscurants" stands out due to Patterson's particular songwriting style, which is occasionally echoing the works of his previous bands, yet it is offering his most mature and sophisticated material to date. The album explores avenues such as soft 1960s tremolo vibes, analogue synths and vocoders, to cranked up distorted guitars, with new lead singer Simon Flatley's crooner-like vocals perfectly completing the album's musical expression. Lyrically "The Obscurants" turns out to be a thought-provoking concept album on the subject of cover ups. Be it the media, police, government, or personal deceptions, it's about the obscuring of the truth and the subsequent fight for disclosure and justice.

Available editions:
- CD Digipak
- Gatefold LP (180g vinyl) incl. poster and PVC protection sleeve (500 copies)
- 2CD hardcover book edition (18x18cm, 60 pages) incl. liner notes, studio report, background info, additional artwork and bonus CD feat. 10 additional tracks (500 copies)

I'm proud to announce, that Duncan Patterson himself made contact with me and asked for permission to use two of my photos for the cover and the backcover of this new album (actually, at first I was thinking that somebody was putting me on when I received a mail from Duncan Patterson, whose music I obviously adore). Please check out "The Obscurants".

On a personal note: Belated thanks for your lovely birthday wishes. Once again I can only apologise for my absence. Life, especially concerning work, got awfully out of hand throughout the last months. I'm currently down with a lung infection, which could be considered as a warning sign of my body. Ironically, this will finally give me time to catch up with my online life, especially here on dA. You're all dearly missed, and I'm looking forward to browse your inspiring work again. Thank you for still being here.

Hey there, everybody!

Long time no see. This year has begun with pretty much difficulties for me, regarding work and health. I'm very sorry for my long absence, and actually I can't even say at this moment when I'll be back to full action.

I just wanted to let you know that reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated. ;)

It's been ten years strong
That's much too long
It's time to do something good for my health
Time to do something good for myself

Hope you're all well!

Exhibition: The Obscure Camera

I've been invited to take part in The Kickplate Project by zosiaq and thesadstorkSome of my works will be exhibited in their gallery in Abertillery, Wales, from 11th to 31st December 2013. I'm pretty excited about it, cause it's the very first time that I'm able to show some of my works "offline".

Their selection:

Urban Abstraction #15 by DpressedSoulSkating Away by DpressedSoulOn the Concrete Sky I Saw Buildings Rise by DpressedSoul

And the "K" that they've made from these photos:

The Obscure Camera by DpressedSoul

If you like what you see, please consider ordering a print of this "K", or another print from my Print ShopAll profits made until 31st December 2013 will be donated to the Kickplate Project or upcoming projects of Zosia and Dafydd.

Thank you very much for your support!

Postcard from Vienna...with LOVE by DpressedSoul

Thank you very much, myraincheck, for featuring Postcard from Vienna...with LOVE as my 7th Daily Deviation! I'm particularly proud of this DD feature, because it's been one of my very rare attempts on Street Photography.

At the same time I'd like to dedicate this DD feature to my grandma Emily, who passed away on 28 October 2013.
I'll always love you, grandma!

Previous DD features:

Mind Pattern by DpressedSoulCan't Find The Door by DpressedSoulSide By Side by DpressedSoul
The Origin of Symmetry by DpressedSoulOn the Concrete Sky I Saw Buildings Rise by DpressedSoulIn My Dreams I Can See You by DpressedSoul

Thank you very much for your constant support, even if I barely have the time to be online nowadays. My job, my life and my mind keep me busier than I'd like to and I'm usually way too exhausted in the evenings to spend my very short free time online. I'm looking forward to have a week off by the end of November and I'll try to catch up on your work and your comments then.

Take care everybody, I miss you! :peace:

Hey there, everybody - long time no see, hope you're well!

I'd like to let you know that my work "She Dreamt She Was Alone In An Empty Field" has been published by EintoeRn in a collaborative photobook. It's now available on blurb, please check it out by clicking on the image below or just follow this link!

On a personal note:

I apologise for my absence during the last weeks. I'm a bit struggling with life nowadays, mostly with my job tbh. I try to fight my way back to normal though. Until then I'd like to share this video with you (thanks to JtheQ for pointing me to that video) in which Kevin Breel talks about his mental illness. It's a matter close to my heart to help raising awareness for this issue...cause I have to keep saying these four words to myself as well: I suffer from depression.

Please bear with me while I'm trying to work off my backlog.

Take care! :peace:
Florian

Hey there everybody,

long time no see here on WhoNeedsColour. For those of you who have wondered about the monthly feature: we had to skip it for personal reasons but I promise we'll be back by the mid of September with a double feature. Be warned! ;)

Today, I'd like to introduce Zosia and Dafydd, aka zosiaq and thesadstork. A few months ago they have started the*kickplate*project, a temporary gallery in their hometown of Abertillery, Wales. You can find more information about their project on their blog. By now they have organised two exhibitions, "Visitors" and "behind her "I"s". But idealism and creative ideas usually don't pay bills, and that's where you come into play.

For their upcoming "Collaborators" exhibition, Zosia and Dafydd have started a Kickstarter project and need your help to keep the only gallery in town. Please consider if you're either able to donate here or if you could help spreading the word.

Thanks a lot in advance!
:peace:
Florian

(PS: Zosia and Dafydd have been interviewed by Einuhr for the German photography magazine "Kwerfeldein". You can read the whole interview here (German only).)

I Have A Dream

Wed Aug 28, 2013, 1:01 AM
I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day the whole world will rise up, and live out the true meaning of the US creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.’

I have a dream that one day on the hills of Afghanistan the sons of former warlords and the sons of former occupiers will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Syria, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice and sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a world where they will not be judged by the color of their skin or the content of their email and text messages but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day, down in Russia, with its vicious homophobics, with its president having his lips dripping with the words of intolerance and nullification; one day right there in Russia, queer boys and girls will be able to join hands with straight boys and girls as sisters and brothers.

I have a dream today.

As Dr. King didn't say on August 28, 1963. :peace:

:bulletyellow:Warum in Kassel?

Florian

:bulletgreen:Short information in English

We're going to hold a devMEET in the city of Kassel (Germany) at August 24, 2013. The city of Kassel is situated in the very center of Germany and has good communications with other cities in Europe via the "Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe" railway station. You might have heard of this city due to the documenta exhibition for contemporary art, which takes place in Kassel every five years.

On the devMEET we're planning to go for a walk through the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe which was recently proclaimed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Later that day we're planning to visit downtown Kassel and maybe a museum, and at the very end of the day we're going to have dinner together.

Niophee has put together a list of hotels which offer reasonable prices. You can download the PDF file here.

If you're interested to join us at the devMEET, please leave a comment below. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact one of the organisers.

Best regards,
Florian

World Heritage

Park 01 by HorstSchmier

The Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe is a unique park in Kassel, Germany. Art historian Georg Dehio (1850–1932),

inspirator of the modern discipline of historic preservation, described the park as "possibly the most grandiose

combination of landscape and architecture that the Baroque dared anywhere”.

The area of the park is 2.4 square kilometres (590 acres), making it the largest European hillside park,

and second largest park on a mountain slope in the world. Construction of the Bergpark, or "mountain park",

began in 1696 and took about 150 years.

On 23 June 2013 the Mountainpark and the Hercules were proclaimed as world heritage sites

during the UNESCO meeting in Pnom Penh.

Introducing New Gallery Folders

Thu May 23, 2013, 3:48 AM
Hello everybody,

due to popular request we have applied some changes to the gallery folders of our group:

"Landscapes, Flora and Fauna"

now is the place for all your nature photos, drawings or paintings.

"Urban and Street"

now is the place for all urban-related photography, drawings or paintings and for street photography,
while the former "Scapes, Urban and Rural" folder has been closed for submissions.

:new: "Black and White Art Features" :new:

Pretty much self-explanatory, isn't it? ^^

Please do always choose one of the themed folders for your submissions,
it helps us to keep the gallery organised.

Thank you!
:peace:
